Shree Ganesh Chaturthi - 29 August 2014

Midrand Hindu Dharma Sabha celebrated Shree Ganesh Chaturthi a spectacular festival, honoring the birth of Lord Ganesha, on 29 August 2014.
Lord Ganesha - the Hindu deity in a human form but with the head of an elephant - represents the power of the Supreme Being that removes obstacles and ensures success in human endeavors.
For this reason, Hindus worship Ganesha first before beginning any religious, spiritual or worldly activity.
In Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is the first son of Lord Shiva and the Divine Mother Parvati.
The date of Ganesh Chaturthi falls on the fourth day after the new moon in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. This is August or September each year.

> Shree Ganesh Mantra
Invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha by chanting Vakratunda Mahaakaaya sloka and know the meaning of the sloka ‘Vakratunda Mahaakaaya’.

vakratunda mahaakaaya suryakoti samaprabhaa
nirvighnam kurumedeva sarvakaaryeshu sarvadaa

Salutations to the supreme Lord Ganesh, whose curved trunk (vakra-tunda) and massive body (maha-kaayaa) shines like a million suns (surya-koti) and showers his blessings on everyone (sama-prabhaa). Oh my lord of lords Ganesh (kurume-deva), kindly remove all obstacles (nir-vighnam), always (sarva-) and forever (sarvadaa-) from all my activities and endeavors (sarva-kaaryeshu)
